It’s fair to say 2014 has been a whirlwind year for Wrexham’s Neck Deep so far. The pop-punk quintet have released their debut album, ‘Wishful Thinking’, completed sell-out headline tours of the US and UK, adorned front covers of magazines both sides of the pond and already started to pick up awards for their troubles too.
Set for release on September 15th, and mixed by These Arms Are Snakes’ Chris Common (Chelsea Wolfe, Pelican), ‘The Crossing’ is as crushing as it is complex, as serrated as it is subtle, the band’s three pronged vocal trident keeping the textures of Ilenkus’ sound in almost constant flux. Moments of sparkling downtime give way to rivers of crushing gloom; elsewhere, leviathan riffs wind their way in, out and around the quintet’s pulsing song structures like a complex network of roots in soil.
South-East London (UK) based metal-core outfit ‘A Higher Demise’ have announced a You-Tube track stream for ‘It’s A Trap’. Arriving as merely a taste of things to come; the track is taken from the band’s forthcoming EP release ‘The Doctor Will See You Now’ recently completed with producerJason Wilson (You Me At Six/Ghost Of A Thousand).
‘For You’ feels inspired by the productions of Lauryn Hill, The Neptunes, and a sax solo befitting Fyfe’s slightly more classical/symphonic upbringing. He’s still just 24 years old, produces it all himself, and has fans ranging from Childish Gambino to London Grammar (who he toured with last year, together with the likes of Foxes and Cloud Control). He’s just signed an album deal with Believe and is currently finishing off his debut record.
