Blending elements of roots, folk, rockabilly and country, expect magnificent songs that deal with the everyday honest realities of being young in 21st century Britain – like getting by on your wits, falling in and out of love, and having to make the best of the hand you’re dealt with. With Jake Bugg proving there is a big audience for young artists able to put a fresh slant on a vintage sound, the future looks bright for Laurel Canyons. Listen to an album sampler here.
The name Laurel Canyons is a nod to some of their influences – an array of musical legends that lived in Laurel Canyon during its 60s and 70s bohemian heyday (everyone from The Doors to The Byrds to Frank Zappa) – but mixed in with this potent brew are elements of home; Laurel Canyons are still unmistakably British. Discovered two years ago by the seasoned managers of reformed art rockers Magazine, Laurel Canyons are all in their early 20s and from Doncaster.
