On October 29th Yes Sir Boss, the first band to sign to Joss Stone’s own label Stone’d Records, release their eagerly anticipated debut album ‘Desperation State’.
Yes Sir Boss are an eclectic group of six college friends including Matt Sellors, bassist Josh Stopford, guitarist Luke Potter, drummer Reuben Nimmo, trumpeter Tom Lad, and saxophonist Jehan Abdel-Malak. Together they have cultivated a truly original and distinct sound that has elements of everything from a brooding Balkan blues band to a horn injected indie rock outfit… In the end, though, it’s the ecstatic meeting of all their diverse sounds that makes YSB’s uplifting, funky, rootsy, tunes so beguilingly unique.
Following headline slots at the likes of Glastonbury, Latitude, Bestival, Electric Picnic and Green Man, a live radio session for Rob da Bank on Radio 1, and a 33 date UK autumn tour, the band released their EP ‘Desperation State’ earlier this year to critical acclaim.
The album ‘Desperation State’ glides effortlessly through stories of love, good times and political comments while taking the listener on a musical journey that “rocks out with the thrust and power of Queens of the Stone Age” (Jess Indeedy) and blends “Ska mixed with Balkan” to create an “epic soundtrack (Ivor Williams).
Seamlessly combining infectious groove-laden melodies, horn led hooks and epic riffs, ‘Desperation State’ draws you in with its dancefloor filling funk and stripped-down, heartfelt tunes perfectly showcasing front man Matt Sellors’ husky vocals.
Yes Sir Boss have been heralded for their energetic shows, earning them a reputation as one of Britain’s most dynamic new live bands. They’re currently at the end of a 40 date summer tour that has seen them in the UK, Ireland, Holland and Germany, before they get back on the road to support Joss in Holland, Germany and France and then begin of their full album tour.
